Shantel Krebs

Shantel was sworn-in as South Dakota’s twenty-eighth Secretary of State in January 2015. Prior to her election to the office of Secretary of State, Krebs represented the 10th District of the South Dakota Legislature from 2005 to 2014, serving in the House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011, and in the Senate from 2011 to 2015. Krebs was elected by her peers to Majority Whip posts in both chambers and chaired the Transportation Committee in the House and the Agriculture & Natural Resources committee in the Senate.

After graduating from high school in her hometown of Arlington, Krebs earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Dakota State University. Shantel has had a successful career in the healthcare industry, business consulting and entrepreneurship. She owned and operated two stores in Sioux Falls, and later established a career in business development for Milo Belle Consultants and is a partner in the Lazy RRs Buffalo Ranch. Most recently, she operated a consulting firm with business and retail clients across the United States and Canada.

In 1997, Krebs was crowned Miss South Dakota.

She is a fourth-generation South Dakotan who was raised around production agriculture and entrepreneurship. When not working, Shantel enjoys volunteering, horseback riding, hunting and exploring all parts of South Dakota. She and her husband Mitch live on a small ranch in Fort Pierre.
